Max Jensen
(a.k.a. EMERGE) was born and raised in the San
Francisco Bay Area. In 1989, at the age of 13,
he set in motion his love for playing music by
beginning to drum. At 16 years old, he became
the drummer for the band Human. In addition to
playing many local venues, Human also competed
in many Battle of the Bands. Also during this
time Max was involved in a number of musical side
projects. He continued drumming for various bands,
until 1995 when he was introduced to the electronic
dance scene (raves), where he would watch and
study his favorite DJ's. After exploring many
instruments such as drums, guitar, and bass, he
had finally found his true passion, "the
wheels of steel." Knowing nothing about DJ'ing
but the basics, he taught himself how to mix and
scratch. After spending hundreds of dedicated
hours to practice, Max finally developed his unique
skill, style, and seamless mixing. By 1998, he
had immersed himself into breakbeats and almost
exclusively plays breaks to this day. With all
of his skill and passion for the music, he realized
it was time for the next step- forming a DJ crew
with people that shared the same intensity, skill,
and passion for the music as himself.
In 1999, Emerge reconnected with his old high
school friend Tim Patmont (a.k.a. Atimatik) who had followed in the
same musical path as Emerge, starting with playing various
instruments in a number of bands. Strangely enough, Atimatik too
had discovered the same irresistible power of the turntables as
Emerge. Tim Patmont had toured as a bassist with Bay Area based
punk band, Loose Bearing, playing with many legendary punk acts.
During that time (mid 90's) he experienced the SF rave scene and
was blown away by its carefree, exciting, and underground
environment. Naturally drawn to the music, he purchased his first Technic 1200MK2 turntables in early 1996, Needless to say the rest
was history! From day one, these two had the same passion and love
for their music. It is this passion that lends itself to their
awe-inspiring sets, played on two and even four turntables.
Coining the phrase "Music that's supercharged!" they knew they
were on to something exceptional but felt they needed a couple
more members to establish a truly one-of-a-kind crew.
In 2000,
Victor De Mello (a.k.a. Devious) began attending Disfunktion Crew
events at a local bar. He was impressed and inspired by them, and
gave Emerge and Atimatik a demo of himself spinning. After
listening to the demo, they immediately saw his potential and
enthusiasm, took him under their wings, and helped him to grow as
a DJ on every level. Victor originally began spinning with the no
longer practicing DJ 210. His passion for the tables kept growing,
and he realized that he needed to play with a group of people that
had as much love and respect for the music as he did. He
fortunately came upon Emerge and Atimatik of the Disfunktion Crew,
and credits them as being his greatest inspiration. Since joining
the crew, he has established his sound as what can best be
described as all out "Nu Skool Funk". Recently, he has been in the
studio producing and putting his extraordinary touches on his
breakbeat tracks.
Moving forward to 2002, the three members of
Disfunktion Crew happened to meet Brian Dellosso (a.k.a. BrianBASS)
at a club that he was a resident DJ at. Instantly, the Disfunktion
Crew knew that his energy and the love that he has for playing to
crowds would be a welcome addition to their group. Inspired by his
friends DJ Chris Fenton and the Disfunktion Crew, Brian strives to
produce the best music and most entertaining atmosphere possible,
so that everyone can have an unforgettable time. Although Brian is
a newcomer to the DJ scene, his style and mixing skills precede
him. He is definitely one DJ to lend your ears and feet to.
Currently, Disfunktion Crew is composed of these four talented
DJs, Emerge, Atimatik, Devious, and Brian Bass. Together, along
with their faithful followers, they are constantly creating
amazing events and unforgettable memories. Most recently, in
January 2006, Emerge placed first in a year end Breakbeat
Competition on DJForums.com. Atimatik has recently recorded a new
CD that is available now, and is resident dj at a number of local
clubs and bars. Devious has been concentrating on producing his
own tracks, working with an array of synths, beats, vocals, and
bass lines. And last but not least Brian is a resident DJ at
Fahrenheit Ultra Lounge in San Jose. Between them, Disfunktion
Crew has played at a huge number of special events, including:
Clockwerk Event's Atlantis, Live 105/Rocktronica at the Fillmore,
The Great American Music Hall, Burning Man at the Warner Brother's
camp, Forum Nightclub, Polo's Blue Cube, Glas Kat, 550 Barneville,
Love Parade SF '04 & '05, SF LoveFest '06, Fahrenheit Ultra Lounge, Avalon, Jelly's,
1015, Mighty, 680 Lounge, The Cellar, Glo, Snodrift, Aura, Lift and many
more.
